Obituary of Elfriede M. Glover

Please share a memory of Elfriede to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Elfriede M. (Friede) Glover passed peacefully from this world on June 26, 2014 at home surrounded by the love of her family. Born July 15, 1919 in Bremen, Germany to the late Wilhelm and Elise Hünerberg, she was predeceased by brothers Wilhelm and Walter. While working as an interpreter in Bremen during WWII, Friede met and married the love of her life, US Army Captain James (Jim) Glover. As a couple, they cherished one another, their two children and their life in Castleton, NY until Jim’s death in 1968. Friede was many things to many people. The Matriarch of her family; a unifying source of positivity, never missing an opportunity to support those she loved. The Pineapple Lady; for the pineapples she meticulously prepared, decorated and gave away in celebration of life’s special moments. The Flower Lady; her passion for nature was contagious and many sought her expertise on all things green. Queen Friede; for her elegant style, graciousness, unique accent, and Buckingham Drive address. A Lifelong Athlete; from her participation as a swimmer in the 1936 Olympic Trials, to the laps that she swam and walked until age 90, to her thrill in watching children and grandchildren’s athletic endeavors, she valued staying active. Speedy Friede; for her uncanny ability to do two days worth of doing in one. Her greatest legacy is her enduring optimism and genuine zest for life. As a mother, mother in law, grandmother, wife, and friend, Friede’s love and loyalty were undeniable. She leaves behind a lifetime of great memories, catch phrases (“Isn’t that lovely;” “Pinch me, I’m on cloud nine!;” “I love you more.”) and life lessons she modeled: to appreciate the beauty in the small things and seek to find goodness in all people. She is survived and will be deeply missed by her children Patrick Glover (Nancy) and Barbara Glover Reutemann; her grandchildren, Amanda Glover, James Glover, Casey Reutemann and E.J. Reutemann; extended family, friends and caregivers. There will be no public calling hours or services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be sent to Christ Community Reformed Church, 1010 Rt. 146, Clifton Park, NY 12065.
