Obituary of Leo W. Towle

Jonathan Charles Woodrow Leo Towle, 97, of Clifton Park, NY formerly of Wingdale and Pawling, NY died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. Born on June 18, 1917 in Montreal, Canada, he was the son of Charles and Leah (Dumas) Towle. Raised in Malone, NY, Mr. Towle graduated from Franklin Academy, entered the U.S. Navy on November 6, 1942, and was honorably discharged on February 17, 1946 serving during WWII, earning the American Theater Medal, Victory Medal, European Theater Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. He owned and ran Wingdale Cleaners in Wingdale, NY for over 30 years. His traditions of doughboys, watching the Yankees, NASCAR, and camping with family will live on. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, easygoing spirit, athleticism, strong work ethic, and devotion to family and his Catholic faith. Grandpa was truly loved and will be missed by all who knew him. C’est si bon. Survivors include his wife, Mildred Towle; two sons, Leo Towle (Celeste) and James Towle (Cindy); two daughters, Mildred Hartnett (Barry) and Maria Shore (Ray); a sister, Pauline Condron; and two sisters in law, Madonna Towle and Alice Towle. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Heather and Kelly Hartnett; Ryan, James, Lillian, and Janet Shore; Jonathon and Stephanie Towle; Stephanie Sweeney; Maria and Deborah Towle; and several nieces and nephews. Waiting for him in heaven are his parents; four brothers, Alexander, James, Charles, and Alfred Towle; one sister, Cecile Hunkins; and brother in laws, Lloyd Hunkins and Joseph Condron. Much gratitude and thanks for the loving support of our family and friends for the past 14 years, Department of Veterans Affairs, Dean Mancini of Visiting Nurse Home Care NHTD program, Home Helpers and Direct Link, Hospice of Saratoga County, and Anitta Boston and Rohanie Chattergoon, who helped us care for Grandpa in our home the last year of his life. Without you, Grandpa’s golden years at home would not have been possible. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated privately at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions in his memory can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Hospice of Saratoga County, or the National WWII Memorial.
