James A. Denison Obituary
James A. Denison, 76, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 12, 2026 at the Stratton VA Hospital in Albany, NY.
Born on October 16, 1949, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Margaret (Powers) Denison. He was predeceased by his wife Maureen (Larkin) Denison, daughter Sarah Denison, son Stephen Denison and son-in-law Brendan Fitzgerald.
Jim graduated from Galway High School in 1967, and soon after enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served as an Airman First Class in the 2d Transportation Squad until receiving an honorable discharge in 1970.
After his military service, Jim worked for the Internal Revenue Service, where he met his future wife, Maureen Larkin. The two were married on October 6th, 1973, and were together until Maureen's passing 49 years later.
Jim later earned a bachelor's degree at Sage College, and continued his career in Federal service, working at the Watervliet Arsenal and then for the United States Department of Energy at the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory. He later returned to the Arsenal and worked there until his retirement.
Jim had a deep love of history, and was always looking for opportunities to learn more, especially about early American history. He was an active member of the Community Archaeology program at Schenectady County Community College, and also served as treasurer of the Auringer-Seelye Chapter of the New York State Archaeological Association.
That passion for history extended to his family's, and he was an active member of the Denison Society, contributed to the publication of the Delia Denison Diary, and a member of the Pilgrim John Howland Society.
Beyond those pursuits, Jim also enjoyed reading, biking, Diet Pepsi, and keeping up with and exploring technology and computers.
He is survived by his children, Lauren Denison and Ryan Denison; his daughter-in-law, Abby Kritzberg; his grandson, John Fitzgerald; and his sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Daniel Freiert.
At Jim's request, there will be no wake or calling hours. A mass will be held for Jim at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 18th at St. Edwards the Confessor Church, located at 569 Clifton Park Center Rd, Clifton Park, NY 12065.
Burial will take place at the end of April at the Galway Village Cemetery, date and time to be announced.
The family requests no flowers be sent. Charitable donations may be made in his memory to Breakthrough T1D, which supports research for Type 1 Diabetes, or to the Alzheimer's Association.
