William Donald Cunningham, 77, of Halfmoon, New York, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 8, 2026 at Albany Medical Center with his family at his side.

Born in Niskayuna, New York in 1949, William was the son of the late Donald and Margaret (Nolan) Cunningham. Following his graduation from high school, William joined the Local 7 Plumbers and Steamfitters Union in Albany, where he worked as a welder for 53 years, turning what was a trade for any other man into an art form. On August 23, 1969, he married Patricia A. Deschaine, and he adored his wife for the rest of his life.

William took great pride in his career, eventually mentoring the younger welders that came after him and taking great pride in passing along his knowledge and skills. In addition to his mentorship he seemed to be friends with everyone and enjoyed helping people, becoming the "MacGuyver" of his family. When he wasn't at work, he enjoyed spending time at camp, being out on the water, fishing, hunting, and enjoying the great outdoors. He loved teaching his children and grandchildren to appreciate the world around them, and passing down his life knowledge. More than anything else, he loved his family, and loved making sure they had what they needed to be successful; taking pride in their accomplishments.

William is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years: Patricia A. Cunningham; his two children: William D. (Jeannine) Cunningham Jr. and Dana A. Cunniff; his three grandchildren: Liam (Erika) Cunningham, Ciara Cunningham, and Jason Cunniff; his sister Carole Jean (Bruce) Tanski; a nephew: Darren (Patrice) VanHeusen; and a niece: Andrea (Christopher) Dawson.

A Celebration of William's Life will take place from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm on Sunday, April 12, 2026 at the Fairways of Halfmoon, 17 Johnson Rd, Mechanicville, NY 12118.
