Andrea Adriano Sciocchetti Obituary

Andrea Adriano Sciocchetti, age 88, of Rexford, New York, known as "Andy" to his American friends and "Adriano" to his family — passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, May 12, 2026. By his side were his devoted wife of 66 years, Lina, and his eldest son, Andy Jr.

Born on September 8, 1937, in Chieti, Italy, Adriano served in the Italian Air Force as a young man, spending six years specializing in avionics and aircraft electronics. In 1960, he married the love of his life, Rachele "Lina." Soon afterward, the couple emigrated to upstate New York to build a new life together.

On his very first day in Schenectady, Adriano began working as a mason for his older brother, Augusto. After Augusto's untimely death in 1972, Adriano founded his own masonry company with his brother-in-law, Panfilo "Pat" DeLeonardis. For the next 20 years, Andy and Pat worked side by side, employing family members and friends while sponsoring many fellow Italian immigrants. Their professional partnership blossomed into a lifelong bond as neighbors and close friends, a legacy they later passed on to their sons.

Even as dementia clouded his final years, Adriano's warm spirit endured. He took great joy in visits from Pat, when the two would spend hours laughing, crying, and reminiscing about the "old days." He remained deeply connected to his youngest brother, Adolfo, in Florida, cherishing their regular phone calls and visits. Adriano also shared an adventurous bond with his cousin Julius; their wild stories and "unimaginable events" never failed to fill a room with laughter. He stayed close to his Italian roots through regular video calls with his nephew Pietro and niece Antonella, who still live in the family's hometown region of Abruzzo.

Adriano shared a remarkable, once-in-a-lifetime closeness with his eldest son, Andy. They were more than father and son — they were best friends, business partners, neighbors, and confidants. Whether sharing morning coffee or an evening glass of wine, they talked about everything — business, politics, and life. When his illness first appeared, Adriano looked to his son and made a simple request: "Please take care of me, and make sure your Mom is okay after I am gone."

Andy and his wife, Rachel, honored that wish with unwavering devotion. Together with Lina, they ensured Adriano's final years were filled with comfort, dignity, and peace in the home he had built. Lina was his anchor, providing selfless daily care that embodied the true meaning of marriage. Rachel, a registered nurse, managed a 24-hour team of caregivers. Along with family friend Lora — who is like a sister to Andy Jr. — they became like daughters to Adriano. He would light up with a broad smile whenever he heard Rachel's Southern drawl say "Hi Boss" or Lora's cheerful "Hello there!"

Adriano is survived by his beloved wife, Lina; his son and best friend, Andy (Rachel); and his other children, Nancy, Linda, and Dino (Jeanne). He was the proud grandfather of Emma, Adriano, Luciano, Gianna, and Lora. He also leaves behind his younger brother, Adolfo.

He was predeceased by his parents, Filomena and Pietro; his siblings Augusto, Arnaldo, and Albina; and his daughter, Maria, who passed away at a young age.

Adriano leaves behind an enormous extended family, including the Sciocchetti, DeLeonardis, Febo, Pitucci, Britti, Silla and Schiazza families, along with countless others whose lives he touched.

The family extends its deepest gratitude to the loving caregivers who treated Adriano with such tenderness and respect: Izabella, Heidi, Sandy, Minnie, Madelyn, Jacqueline, Michele, Lora, and Rachel. Your kindness allowed the "man of the house" to maintain his dignity until the end. Special thanks also go to Tammi, Rosalie, and the entire hospice team for their compassionate guidance and support during his final year.

A period of visitation will be held for Adriano on Friday, May 22, 2026 from 9:00 am until 11:00 am at St. Edward the Confessor, Clifton Park Center Road, Clifton Park, NY 12065, followed immediately by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am. Entombment in the mausoleum at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, 2501 Troy-Schenectady Rd, Niskayuna, NY 12309 will follow the mass.
