William E. Scott Obituary

Bill Scott, 85, a devoted husband, proud father and grandfather, and Army Reserve veteran, passed

away peacefully on February 16, 2026, at Saratoga Hospital after a year-long, courageous fight with

cancer.

He was born in Queens, New York on May 17, 1940, to Antoinette (Kelly) and Eugene Scott. After

graduating from Power Memorial High School in Manhattan, he worked for Western Electric for

several years before enlisting in the Army Reserves. After bootcamp, he was posted to Fort Hamilton

on Roosevelt Island, NY. He received an honorable discharge on January 12, 1969.

Bill joined AT&T shortly after his discharge, starting as an Installer and later becoming Key Man on

business accounts, where he oversaw large telephone installations. Toward the end of his time at

AT&T, he also worked installing data systems. While at AT&T, Bill was especially proud to be a

Communications Workers Local 1109 Union Steward. He took seriously his role representing fellow

installers in disciplinary grievances and valued the opportunity to help others. He also enjoyed

matching wits with management.

Bill married his first wife, Margaret Slattery, in 1969. Together they had three wonderful children who

Bill loved and was very proud of.

Bill and his second wife, Donna, shared nearly forty loving years together until his death. When they

retired, they moved from Manhattan to their beloved Catskills and spent twelve years there enjoying

their life in the country. When they decided to downsize, they moved to the Albany, NY area.

Bill had a strong personality. He was honest and direct, so you always knew where you stood with

him. He had a great sense of humor and was always ready with a funny quip. He made a lasting

impression on everyone who knew him.

He loved to travel and especially enjoyed seeing the natural beauty of the world. His passion was

music, and he enjoyed a wide range of music genres. Over the years, he put together an eclectic

collection of albums and CDs.

Bill is survived by his wife, Donna; his daughters, Nancy Propper of West Chester, PA and Donna

Scott (Erick) of Wake Forest, NC; his son, Richard (Sharon) Scott of Zebulon, NC; his

granddaughter, Nicole Propper of Philadelphia, PA; his sister, Marie Braun of Eugene, OR; and

several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Arlene Quinn.
