Robert Bruce McMinn, 78, of Mechanicville, NY passed away on July 22, 2026 at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, NY. His wife, Jackie, and both his children, Heather and Shawn, were at his side.

Bob was born on October 30, 1947 in Penn Yan, NY to parents John and Magdalene (Carlsen) McMinn. He enjoyed a happy childhood with older siblings John and Mary. Bob attended Penn Yan Academy where he formed lifelong friendships. He graduated high school with the class of 1965 and then earned an Associate's Degree from Alfred State College of Technology in 1967. After college, Bob began a career in computer operations management, working at first for Itek, and then, for Lawyers Cooperative Publishing Company (later Thomson).

It was at Itek that Bob first met Jackie who he married on June 9, 1973. They settled into married life in Henrietta, NY. It was there that their two children, Heather (1978) and Shawn (1980), were born. While the children were still young, the family moved to Farmington, NY. In 1991, Bob transitioned to the Golub Corporation and the family moved to Malta, NY. Bob remained with the Golub Corporation until his retirement in 2008.

As a young man, Bob was an avid bowler and competed with his team in several tournaments each year. As the kids were growing up, he enjoyed regular trips to visit his sister's family in northern NY and his brother's family in Virginia as well as memorable family vacations to Pennsylvania, Ohio, Florida, Massachusetts, Maine, South Carolina, and Canada. For a while, he and Jackie enjoyed yearly trips to Las Vegas, NV and even briefly considered retiring there. Bob also enjoyed any excuse to have a reunion with friends and family in Penn Yan and loved taking time during these long weekends to tell stories, play cards, and enjoy tastings at the many wineries and breweries of the Finger Lakes. In recent years, Bob and his family discovered a love for cruising and they were able to enjoy 5 family cruises together to destinations such as the Bahamas, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, the Virgin Islands, and Bermuda. Bob was also a lifelong sports fan and spent countless hours cheering on his favorite teams - Syracuse basketball, Notre Dame football, the Cleveland Browns, the Baltimore Ravens, and especially the Los Angeles Dodgers. He was so proud to see his Dodgers win back-to-back World Series championships. Bob was also a horse racing fan and thoroughly enjoyed spending time at the Saratoga Race Course. After his retirement, you could usually find Bob and Jackie in the picnic area of the track almost daily throughout the summer along with the rest of the treehuggers group. Bob and Jackie moved with Shawn to Mechanicville, NY several years ago and were very happy to be included in the activities of the Somerset culdesac crew.

Bob was predeceased by his beloved parents John and Magdalene (Carlsen) McMinn, his mother-in-law Juanita Pegow, his brother John and sister-in-law Inga McMinn, and brothers-in-law Robert Balfour and James LeFever.

Bob is survived by his wife of 50+ years, Jacquelyn (Fyles) McMinn, his daughter Heather McMinn, son Shawn McMinn, sister Mary (McMinn) Balfour, sister-in-law Judith (James) Kennett, brother-in-law James (Ann) Fyles, 5 nephews, 2 nieces, as well as several great-nephews and nieces.
