Irma Mahar Obituary

Irma M. Mahar, 97, of Saratoga Springs, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2023. Irma was born in Phoenicia, NY the daughter of the late James and Beatrice (Wright) Simpson.

She is preceded in death by her husband, John D. Mahar and her son, John J. Mahar.

Irma went to Kingston High School and graduated in 1944. She went to earn a BA degree from Russell Sage College, graduating in 1948. Irma began her career with New York State Dept. of Health as a lab technician in Albany. Then, Irma returned to school to earn a teaching degree from the College of Saint Rose and began a 20+ year career at Forts Ferry School as a second-grade teacher for North Colonie Central School District. In her retirement Irma enjoyed traveling, playing bridge, gardening, vacationing on Lake George and socializing with family and friends.

Irma is survived by her son James E. (Diane) Mahar.

We would like to thank her aides, Tara, Asha, Nadia, Shelly and Devi for their tremendous support and care of Irma over the past four years. We would also like to thank Hospice for their work over the past year. They are truly an outstanding organization of health care professionals.

A private grave side service will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Troy, NY
