Robert J Vawter Obituary

Robert J. Vawter, age 75, of Ballston Lake passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his

loving family on Saturday February 17, 2024. Born in 1948, he was the son of the late James and

Dorothy (Kepler) Vawter.

He graduated from SUNY Binghamton, then known as Harpur College, with a major in history in 1970.

He graduated from Albany Law School in 1973. He began his career in the New York State Attorney

General's office in the Real Property Bureau, and then briefly worked in the Environmental Bureau (then

known as the Air and Water Bureau). In 1975 he moved to the Consumer Frauds and Protection Bureau

where he remained until retirement in 2009 as a principal attorney in the bureau. He was very proud of

the work he did protecting the people of the State of New York.

Having a deep faith in God, he was an active member of the Jonesville United Methodist Church, serving

on many committees. He joyfully sang as a tenor in the church choir, as well. He was also committed to

The Boy Scouts of America, Troop 6. Over the years, he served as an assistant scout master, scout

master and Troop Committee Chairman. He also participated in many Scout boards of review guiding

the individual scout through his advancement in ranks. Although the ultimate goal was to reach Eagle, it

was perseverance and striving to do your best that was important regardless of the rank achieved.

He loved hiking, skiing, sailing, being a grandpa, and spending time with friends and family at his

Adirondack camp. He suffered the ups and downs of the Buffalo Bills and Boston Red Sox. He could

spend hours discussing history and current events with anyone wanting to have a thoughtful exchange

of views. He was an honorable and sincere man who will be greatly missed by those who knew him.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mary, a son David and (Megan) Vawter, a daughter Teresa and

(Michael) McNeany and sisters Susan McCreadie and Debra Hamel. He is also survived by his six

grandchildren, Kaylee, Madison, Ava, Zachary, Ethan, and Hannah.

Calling hours will be held on Friday February 23 from 4-7pm at the Catricala Funeral Home Inc., 1597 Route 9, Clifton Park, with a funeral service on Saturday February 24 at 11am at the Jonesville United Methodist Church.
