I worked with Eric at Novo Nordisk in the late 80's into the 90's. He was one of the first people I met on our Northeast team. I wasn't married at the time and my maiden name is Starkie. That is when I he gave me my forever nickname, Ringo. It was then I learned he was a Beatles fan! We were true pals at our national sales meetings (aka POAs). He brought fun and laughter everywhere he went. Miss you buddy!!!! Love, Ringo!

Eric was a wonderful team player on our Northeast Novo Nordisk team. He was smart, witty and fun to work with and to be around. I have very fond memories of working with Eric and his doctors loved him as well. May his memory be for a blessing.

To Eric’s Family and all of his many friends—
I was sorry to learn about Eric’s passing. What a wonderful person.
I had the opportunity to work with Eric at Genentech on several projects—what a joy—so smart, and so humble and easy to get along with.
Even though I have not seen Eric in several years since I left Genentech, I will miss him.

Dear Berman Family, I am so sorry and I am so saddened by the loss of such a wonderful friend, and for you, Husband and Dad. Eric was always so proud of Michael and Meaghan and loved Cathy as a spouse and best friend. I was always excited to speak with or hang out with Eric in person - golf, fishing, walking and discussing music. He was the most knowledgeable person I have met regarding music - especially Rock and Roll but he had such a diverse appreciation for different genres. I was blessed to work with Eric at Genentech as a peer and then as his manager. His knowledge, relationships and strategic ability in managed care was second to none and I learned so much from him. I often referred to his region as the "sentinel" - because he was able to accomplish great achievements before anyone else. I believe what I appreciate most about Eric was his sense of humor. He was able to make anyone and everyone crack up with his unique comments and observations. Eric's humor got many of us through some very challenging situations. I could go on and on about what a great friend and colleague Eric was and I am so thankful for so many people reaching out to express their sadness of his passing.
Berman family, I hope the fond memories of Eric can help temper the pain and sadness over time. My deepest condolences, Ken Smith

Eric was a good man- filled with a NY style sarcastic humor, willing to teach, grounded in what was right, authentic, willing to participate in antics with/on colleagues, loved his family, proud of his children,… and all with a teddy bear smile. I always looked forward to seeing Eric at our company meetings- either in person or virtually.
To the Berman family,
Please accept my deepest condolences. While no words can comfort your shock and grief right now, I hope in time the wonderful and fun memories will rise in your thoughts and hearts. Please know how privileged many of us are to have had the pleasure of sharing a moment or two with Eric.
With sympathy,

It has been an honor, privilege and pleasure to know Eric. Since fate intervened and had our son Joe meet Meghan Berman in Amsterdam (Holland - not Amsterdam exit 27 off of the NYS Thruway), Eric and Cathy have welcomed us into their lives. We have spent many wonderful occasions together, including a wedding, holidays and smoked meat barbeques. As we got to know Eric I realized we had a mutual appreciation of trivia, classic rock music, the New York Mets and NY football Giants.
We are so grateful we got to know Eric and could share so may celebrations together.
Our deepest sympathies to Cathy, Meghan and Michael, and Helen, Judy and Arthur.
Love, Ken & Judy Chappell

Q: What was one of your favorite qualities of Eric?
A: I had the pleasure of working with Eric during our Amgen managed healthcare days (we shared a few trips as well).
Eric was always willing to share his thoughts and experiences which were highly valued. His openness, honesty and integrity were aspiring qualities for all of us.
But, my favorite memories were stories we shared of our families. Eric was always talking about Cathy and the kids (as was I of my own family).
His witty humor will be missed, and might have propelled him into a comedian role in another life.
Our hearts, thoughts and prayers are with you during this time of sorrow.

Q: Describe where Eric worked and what they did
A: Eric joined Genentech shortly after I did and we became fast friends. We had a shared love of music, specifically certain types of 80's music. One of my favorite memories of Eric is that when I would see him at meetings, he would ALWAYS greet me with a welcoming smile. Our conversations would almost always go to music and who we would like to see in concert. I could always depend on Eric to sing a few lines of a favorite song. It warms my heart to think about those interactions.
For Michael: Your Dad was so complimentary of your intelligence and your ability to be a student athlete. We often talked about lacrosse when you were younger and playing in high school and college. I have a son the same age who played lacrosse (I played and coached too), so we used to share stories often. I am sorry for your loss. I will miss your Dad. Not seeing him will create a void for me, as I am sure it will for you. Time heals. You will always miss your Dad, and you will move through the loss.

Eric had integrity and responsiveness around any patient in need of therapy and worked to remove barriers so that they could receive care. He was always steady and kind and professional. I loved reading about his life at home and his family and his involvement on Boards in his community. We worked across the miles, remotely, so I learned much more about his day to day life outside of Genentech in this beautiful obituary. I am so very sorry that his life was shorter than any of us would have wanted and send my sympathies to Cathy, Meghan and Michael.

Condolences to Cathy, Meghan, Michael, Judy and Helen. Eric was one my first friends growing up in Plainview from Parkway School through JFK and beyond. We had great times riding bikes, playing baseball, rooting for the Mets and discovering the Beatles albums. I’m heartbroken, but his memories are a blessing.

It saddens me dearly to know that Eric has passed. Eric was a friend, colleague and my BBQ partner. I remember the day he got his Kamado Joe. Since that day we traded hundreds of texts about smoking meat, techniques, and discussed the new gadgets we got for the smoker. Every St. Patty’s day we would load up on corned beef just to be able to run our Katz’s style pastrami. He had such a passion for BBQ and for making great tasting food. Eric, you will be missed!
To the Berman family, my deepest condolences.

I will miss him.

Dear Cathy, Megan, Michael, and family,
My heart truly goes out to you all during this difficult time. At dinner tonight, my family found ourselves reflecting on a few memories we shared with Eric and the times spent together as our boys were growing up. Hunter shared a story about the time he and Michael were racing up the driveway on their bikes and, in the excitement, Hunter accidentally hit Eric’s car. He admitted he was nervous to tell Eric, but Eric, as always, handled it with such kindness and understanding, putting Hunter at ease.
Bob and I also reminisced about the wonderful wine parties we enjoyed together, and it’s clear how much Eric’s warmth and presence meant to all of us.
Please know that our thoughts are with you, and we’re here for you during this heartbreaking time.
With love and sympathy,
Melissa Frohnhoefer
I tried to preserve the warmth while adding a bit of flow. Does this capture the tone you were aiming for? we attend. Also the Kentucky Derby party we hosted and spent with you all. I pray you all heal and cherish all of the memories you all created together.

Mr Berman made the best wings (I never did get to be on a first name basis with him even though he offered). I remember when he got the kamado joe smoker and made ribs for me and Mike after lacrosse and we each ate like 2 racks.

It is surreal that I am writing in this book and will not see Eric again. I am completely heartbroken. I met Eric through Cathy more than 30 years ago and always admired his devotion to Cathy and the kids and his pride in them all. I was always impressed with how effortlessly it seemed for him to remain in touch with childhood and college friends interweaving events with them like the tours of baseball parks, with his professional and family life. He was an inspiration in how to live life with integrity, humor, lots of interests like music and travel, compassion and deep love for his wife and family.❤️✨
