Please share a memory of Karen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Halfmoon – Karen Elizabeth Schmidt, 75, of Halfmoon, NY, passed away on Friday, February 7, 2025 at Albany Medical Center with her family by her side. Karen was born in 1949 in Brooklyn, New York to the late Robert F. and Josephine A. (Schatzle) Schuff. She is also predeceased by her Brother-in-Law and Sister-in-Law: Warren and Maria Schmidt. Following Karen's graduation from high school, she furthered her education by earning her Associates Degree. At various times she worked for the Irving Trust and as a School Paraprofressional for the NY Board of Education serving the city public school system, but neither of those jobs was as important to her as being, as she called herself, a "Domestic Engineer", caring for her home and family. In 1971 Karen married her husband Frank, and they built a beautiful life together, raising two sons, and enjoying one another's company. She enjoyed many hobbies in her spare time, including reading, playing piano, doing crochet, making ceramics, collecting dolls and spoons, travelling, studying history, and singing, both in her church choir and in a folk choir. Karen was proud of having a short story about her experiences growing up in Brooklyn published in a local Queens newspaper. She was known to be a stylish dresser, a party and vacation planner, and was the family leader. She was unflinchingly kind to everyone, and loved animals as much as she loved people. She was a great wife, an attentive mother, a wonderful grandmother, and a loyal friend. Karen is survived by her husband of nearly 54 years: Frank H. Schmidt; her two sons: Michael F. (Karen) Schmidt, and Brian R. Schmidt; her two grandchildren: Kayla and Joseph; and her sister Kathleen (Gerard) Lindenmeier; as well as several nieces and nephews. A period of visitation for Karen will be held on Tuesday, February 11, 2025 from 4:00PM until 8:00PM at Catricala Funeral Home, 1597 Route 9, Clifton Park, NY. A funeral will be held the following morning, February 12, 2025 at 11:00AM, also at Catricala Funeral Home. Karen will be buried at the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Veteran's Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, NY immediately following the funeral service. In keeping with Karen's deep love for animals, please consider giving a memorial contribution in her memory to the Animal Protective Foundation, 53 Maple Avenue, Glenville, New York 12302.
