It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of our mother, Marie E. Morin Catricala, who passed away on February 5, 2025 after a short illness at her residence at Orchard Pointe at Surprise.
Born in Cohoes, NY in 1923, she was the daughter of the late William J. and Blanche B. (Riberdy) Morin, sister of the late Rita M. (Michael) Czech, and beloved widow of Walter V. Catricala. She graduated from Cohoes High School in 1940 and Mildred Elley Business School in 1942. She worked as a secretary at both the John L. Thompson Company and Simmons Machine Tool Company, becoming a homemaker for several years after her marriage on January 12, 1947. Her talent for all types of needle arts kept her busy as well as providing her children and other family members with extraordinary hand-crafted items. After the children were grown, she rejoined the workforce at Aetna Life Insurance, followed by her secretarial position in the Guidance Department at Troy High School, retiring in 1981. After our father's passing in 2001, she moved to Surprise, AZ, where she was an active member of the Sun City Grand Stitchers group. She thoroughly enjoyed working with the other members, sharing her expertise with crochet hooks, knitting needles, and tatting shuttles.
Marie is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth (the late Jene) Golovchenko of Lexington, MA, Carol (Paul) Quantock of Stillwater, NY, and William (Liz) Catricala of Waddell, AZ; eight grandchildren, and twenty-six great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, sister, and husband, she was predeceased by her niece, Lorraine M. Czech Bradley.
To celebrate her life, a gathering will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2025 from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at Catricala Funeral Home, 1597 Route 9 Clifton Park, NY 12065. Interment will take place privately at the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Veteran's Cemetery later this year at the convenience of the family.
