Obituary
Obituary of Randall R. Gifford
Please share a memory of Randall to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Randall Raymond "Randy" Gifford, of Clifton Park, NY, passed away on February 9, 2025 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Randy was born in 1952 in Hollywood, Florida to the late Stephen and Madeline (Austin) Gifford. Randy is predeceased by his son, Bryah Gifford and his wife, Peggy Power Gifford.
He grew up with his twin and 4 other siblings on a dairy farm in Paris, New York where Randy was instilled with a strong work ethic. After graduating from Sauquoit High School, Randy earned a Hotel & Restaurant Management degree from SUNY Delhi. While in school, Randy's love of the restaurant business blossomed. He worked at Brooks' BBQ where Griff & Fran Brooks taught him the ins & outs of the bbq business. After attending SUNY Plattsburgh, Randy worked in several restaurants before working in the food brokerage business, a job that allowed him to live in Germany and Guam. Randy returned to Stamford, NY and began running the Delaware Inn with his brother-in-law, Pat Power.
Randy continued to manage restaurants including Victoria Station in Salem, MA and Albany, NY before beginning his career managing country clubs. Randy was the club manager at Wolfert's Roost Country Club and general manager at Mohawk Golf Club. In 1995, Randy achieved his dream by starting Giffy's Bar-B-Q with his family, first with catering, eventually moving to a full service restaurant. In 2011, Randy worked with his son, Bryah, to start Power's Inn & Pub. Randy continued to love doing chicken bar-b-ques, especially at local county fairs.
Randy was a prominent member of the capital region restaurant scene for nearly 40 years. He was a member of several organizations over the years including serving on the ZBA of Clifton Park. However all of that was inconsequential compared to his favorite role; being Poppi to his five grandchildren. Poppi attended dance recitals, basketball games, cheerleading meets, and ski races.
Randy is survived by his two daughters: Charlie (Jim) Cahill of Clifton Park, NY and Amy (Brenden) Gotham of Lake Placid, NY; grandchildren: Taylor and Tessa Gifford, Alex Gifford, Liam Gotham and McKenna Cahill; his siblings: Dawn (Kevin) Baker, Diane (Norman) Woodruff, Ronald (Virginia) Gifford, Robert Gifford, and Stephen (Judy) Gifford as well as countless former employees and co-workers that became family to him.
A period of visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Catricala Funeral Home, 1597 Route 9, Clifton Park, NY 12065.
