Dear Sandy
We were away during February and have just heard about Norm. So very very sad to hear of another dear neighbour and friend who has died. Our hearts go out to you and to Sarah and Myra. Norm helped me so many times when Owen was travelling for work. He showed me how to bypass the system so that my heat would come on during a power outage and helped close up a freezing gap in the installation in my bedroom. This fits in totally with your mention of him being a general fix-it person and happily helping people like me.
We are thinking of you
Love

Dear Sandy, Myra, Sarah and extended Russell and Onat relatives,
I was deeply saddened when I heard of Norm’s passing. I refer to him and Sandy as my second parents. Norm was one of my parent’s best friends. He had a wonderful sense of humor. So many of my memories involve his jokes and the occasional tricks he and my father (Ron) would play on us. He was warm and generous, always willing to lend a hand and help fix things. He looked after everyone around him and shouldered their burdens as well. He supported my family and I through the loss of both of my parents and made sure we always had a place to stay with him and Sandy. He checked on us whenever it snowed to make sure the driveway was plowed. He always enjoyed helping my dad tinker with his boat and vice versa. His passing leaves a large hole in our lives that we can only hope to fill with the fond memories of him. You will all be in my thoughts and prayers.
With Love,
Christie Ensher

Dear Sandy, Myra, Sarah and the extended Russell Family,
Norm and all of you are extended family to me and the Enshers. I loved Norm and will miss him dearly. I have so many happy memories of Norm and my father, Ron, fishing, doing some home projects, and just spending time together through so many events. Norm was so welcoming and warm. The Russell home was my second home growing up. I remember his laugh, his storytelling. I remember spending Christmas Eve’s together after church, and lazy summer evenings in the pool. Norm was generous and would always help a friend (like my father) and was so supportive when my father passed. I always had a deep respect for Norm’s wisdom and choices. I know they shaped who I am today and made me a better person. We have all lost a giant of a man with Norm’s passing. My heart and deepest condolences goes out to all who knew and loved Norm.

Dear Sandy, Sarah and Myra,
Karen and I wish to express our condolences and extend our prayers to you and Norm. We were shocked to learn of Norm's passing after having enjoyed a breakfast chat with him at Snyder's in December. Our families have been friends and neighbors for many years and we remember our girls growing up as playmates and friends. Norm was a wonderful person. He leaves a legacy of friendship and kindness to many people. May God bless you and receive Norm in peace.
Love, Karen and Bob Stockton

So many memories, where can I begin? Often, Myra and I would offer to help with lawn work and when we were finished Mr. Russell would take us to a local icecream stand to get an oreo flurry that Myra introduced me to, going beyond traditional icecream! He allowed Myra and I to use his extra lumber to be creative making forts on a swing set or making a go-cart and weighted so much that it took Myra and I to push with all our strength to get it to the top of the court to ride it. Mid way down the hill we discovered that it would only go straight! One day, Myra and I were playing with dirt and making mud to build things and I utilized a a glass jar to shape the mud. The glass jar slipped and broke. I tried my best to pick up the pieces which then lead me to getting a cut. I was scared and ran home. It was not minutes later that Mr. Russell drove up to my parents house to make sure I was ok. Mr Russell treated me like I was one of his daughters. He told great stories, took Myra and I to hundreds of places and events over the span of a couple decades. He was very supportive of his family and neighbors, always willing to give a hand, spend time, build relationships! Mr. Russell and Mrs. Russell exhibited a very strong sense of family and the importance of being there for one another. Every time I would come over, I believe that was almost daily for years on end and lived there on weekends, I felt like I was at my second home, welcomed and loved. Mr. Russell will always be remembered in my heart as my growing up second Dad.

Norm was always quick to share a funny story from our past. We go way back to Southwest School playground and many basketball and whiffle ball games there. Went on a camping trip up in hospital owned forest that turned into a visit from police late at night. We weren't doing anything wrong other than noise. Police had to ask for help getting out of woods. We all always laughed about this over the years.Frank,Norm and Me played a lot of basketball together and once beat 3 guys from the high school varsity at the YMCA. Again always remembered this.
Rest In Peace my friend.
