Obituary of Warren E. Reiter
Please share a memory of Warren to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Warren E. Reiter, 96, of Schenectady, N.Y., passed away peacefully on Monday, April 7, 2025, with his daughter, Dorothy and her husband Richard, by his side. Born in 1928, the son of Frank and Sophie Reiter, Warren was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Barbara, and his older brothers, Harvey, Frank and Calvin. He is survived by his loving children: Christopher Reiter, and his wife Linda; Valerie Scalia, and her husband Richard; Dorothy Phillips, and her husband, Richard; and Timothy Reiter, and his wife Julia.
Warren was born in Jackson Heights, NY, and summered often as a child on Long Beach, Long Island. He loved the ocean and beach life and never missed an opportunity to enjoy the sun. Warren graduated in 1949 from St. John's University in New York, with a B.A. in Accounting. He served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army Signal Corps during the Korean War. After, he worked as a junior accountant for Sealtest Ice Cream Company in NY. That's where he met the love of his life, Barbara. They were married in 1951.
He worked as an accountant his entire professional life. He was the Business Administrator for the Huntington School District in Huntington, NY. Warren and Barbara purchased a home in Greenlawn, Long Island, NY, where they raised their family and had a very active life.
Warren loved to be involved in community activities throughout his life. He was President of his Lutheran church and a Rotary Club member. He was active in local bowing leagues, golfed regularly, played tennis, and loved playing cards with friends and neighbors. He even found time to umpire his son's little league games. Warren was a life-long fan of sports, especially baseball and the New York Mets.
Warren retired at age 62, when he and Barbara moved to Whiting, NJ for the next 20 years. Over the years together and during retirement, Warren and Barbara enjoyed travelling and vacationing in Florida during the winter. They also loved taking cruises to various destinations. A frequent travel destination included Barbados, where Barbara was raised as a child, and where she still had family and friends.
Warren became a Councilman for Manchester Township, NJ, where he helped many people in need, and was very much appreciated. Shortly after his wife passed in 2014, Warren moved to the Albany area in New York, to be close to family, and cared for by his daughter, Dorothy, and son-in-law, Richard.
The greatest gifts in Warren's life were his wife, four children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He never missed a birthday, anniversary, or other milestone. Fond memories of Warren include his wonderful, caring and kind nature. He was never judgmental and would always help people in their time of need. Warren was a true Believer and loved the Lord with all his heart. Knowing that his spirit lives on, his family will find comfort in their faith and the love of family and friends. Warren will be greatly missed.
