Mary V. DePeter Obituary

Mary V. DePeter, age 90 of Ballston Lake, passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2015 in St. Mary’s Hospital. Born on June 22, in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Bridget (Horan) Brady. She married her beloved late husband Edward J. DePeter on January 4, 1947. She was also predeceased by sons Thomas A. and USAF Reserve Capt. (Ret.) Michael J. DePeter, brothers, James P. and Thomas J. Brady, sister, Rose Petersohn and sister in law, Ann Brady and brother in law Jack Petersohn, and grandsons Jude and Thomas Eoin DePeter.

Mary is survived by her sons, Edward A. (Susan), Francis J. (Madeline), Mark B. and Andrew (Patricia) DePeter, daughters, Michelle M. (Joseph) Guido and Noreen M. DePeter, 24 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, sister in law, Veronica Brady and daughter in law, Sharon DePeter.

Mary worked as a manager of data processing for the National Bank of N.A. in Hempstead, Long Island for 15 years, then, after moving to Ballston Lake, as an officer of customer service for Key Bank in Albany until she retired in 1989.

Mary’s life is defined by a deep religious faith and an unconditional love of family. She was a devoted member of Corpus Christi Church where she served as a Eucharistic Minister, a member of the bereavement team, as a Faith Formation councilor, among various other capacities in the parish. She was a member of the Ladies’ Auxiliary in both the Clifton Park Elks and Council #6862 of the Knights of Columbus. After retiring, she volunteered for many years at Captain’s Treasures organizing donations to be sold for the needy. In all, she lived a life of Christian charity for her church and community.

But, second only to her religious faith, was her devotion to family. Along with her husband Ed, she worked tirelessly to provide for eight children and became the matriarch of an ever growing extended family which included those numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who came to know her as G-G. She was caring to all, the source of innumerable prayers, and generous with her resources, particularly her love.

The family wishes to extend its gratitude to all the caregivers at St. Mary’s Hospital, its Hospice caregivers, and particularly to homecare companion Karen Backus.

Calling hours will be held at Corpus Christi, Round Lake on Wednesday from 4 to 7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the church on Thursday at 10 am. Burial will take place following the Mass at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Waterford.
