Pat Butler, age 85, of Clifton Park, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 7, 2015. Born in 1930 in Mandan, North Dakota, he was the son of the late Vincent and Josephine (Menne) Butler. He was predeceased by his wife Gertrude V. Butler, and son Michael Sherman. He dedicated a portion of his life to the Coast Guard, where he earned the rank of Chief Petty Officer (Telephone Technician) and performed his duty faithfully for over 20 years, most notably serving as the USCG Lighthouse Keeper on Fire Island, NY, until his retirement August 1968. Following the service, Pat worked as a Senior Engineer for Verizon, where he managed one of the first advanced telecommunications equipment deployments in the industry, retiring after more than 20 years. He was a member of numerous organizations, including: Telephone Pioneers (life time member), LIONS Club (President 1982), and the American Legion (Mohawk Post 1450). He is survived by his children: Colleen, Patrick (Courtenay), and Lori Joyce, sisters, Geraldine Trost and Florence Mayer; and his granchildren: D’Arcy, John and Timothy, Shannon and Thomas, and Caleb, Ryan, and Nicholas. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 4 to 8 pm at Catricala Funeral Home Inc. 1597 Route 9, Clifton Park. Burial will take place on Wednesday at the Saratoga National Cemetery at 12:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Legion Mohawk Post 1450, 275 Grooms RdClifton Park, NY 12065.
