James P. Delaney, age 75, of Clifton Park passed away on Sunday, April 27th, 2014 at Ellis Hospital surrounded by family. Born in Albany on October 27, 1938, he was the son of the late James and Loretta Delaney. He was also predeceased by his sister, Mary Jean Carroll. James lettered in basketball and baseball at St. Joseph’s High School in Albany. Jim had a modest but rewarding baseball career playing minor league baseball in the Dodger organization. He also worked construction, having a hand in building the towers that add so much to the Albany skyline. James retired from the New York State Department of Corrections in 2000, after over 25 years of service in Support Operations. In retirement, James enjoyed vacations to Florida and Ireland, playing golf with friends, spending time with his cherished grandchildren, and being a husband to his wife and best friend, Mary. James is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years Mary Delaney, daughters Tracey (Shane) Cooper and Claire Delaney, son James (Michele), and granddaughters Cassandra and Victoria Cooper and Reilly Delaney. Calling Hours will be held on Wednesday, April 30th from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Catricala Funeral Home Inc., 1597 Route 9 in Clifton Park, with a funeral Mass Thursday May 1st at 10 a.m. at St Edward’s Church in Clifton Park. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery in Menands. Memorial contributions may be made to Autism Speaks, 1060 State Rd 2nd Floor, Princeton, NJ 08540 or by visiting autismspeaks.org.
