Obituary of John H. Nazarian, Sr.

John H. “Argo” Nazarian Sr., age 89 of Stillwater passed away on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family. Born on October 17, 1927, he was the son of the late Agajan and Verkina Nazarian. John was predeceased by his brother Andrew (Nettie) Nazarian, sister Marion (Alex) Arghanian, brother-in-law Charlie Giunta, and sister-in-law Nancy Kemp. Following his service in the US Navy, John owned and operated several service stations in the area for many years. After that, he owned and operated the Lucky 13 bar and grill in Watervliet for over 25 years until 1989. He then worked for the NYS Senate as a print machine operator and retired at the age of 77. John enjoyed playing cards and most of all, he loved to spend time with his family. John is survived by his wife, Sonya L. Kemp Nazarian, sons John (Kristin) Nazarian Jr., Frank (Jill) Turriglio, Patrick (Tina) Turriglio, Christopher (Melanie) Turriglio, and Ralph Nazarian, his sister and best friend, Dorothy Giunta, brothers in law Sandy (Jean) Kemp and A.J. Kemp Jr., sisters-in-law Joella (Allen) Timberlin, and Cheryl (Jeff) Vaughn, grandchildren Anthony, Patrick, Andrew, Emily, Isabella, Katelynn, Nicholas, Ethan, and Zachary. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and his faithful companion Wendell. The family would like to thank John’s longtime friend and doctor, Dr. Stephen Sgambati Jr. and Caroline Marzello of the Hospice of Saratoga for all of the loving care that they provided. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Catricala Funeral Home Inc., 1597 Route 9, Clifton Park, with a funeral service Thursday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Saratoga National Cemetery.
