Obituary of Donald P. Provencher

Donald P. Provencher, 62, passed away unexpectedly at home on Monday, July 31, 2017. Born on June 15, 1955, in Peabody, MA, he was the son of Donald R. and Claire Provencher. He was raised in Salem, MA. He was predeceased by his father, and his sister, Darlene Maguire.

Don was a graduate of Bishop Fenwick High School in Peabody, and went on to earn his Bachelor’s Degree in Physics at UMASS Lowell, his Master’s Degree in Nuclear Physics at RPI in Troy, and his Master’s Degree in Computer Science at Union College in Schenectady. For 17 years he was employed by the US Dept. of Energy at the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory as a physicist for the Navy’s nuclear propulsion program. He spent the next 20 years as a Computer Security Architect in the banking industry, and was currently employed with Bank of America. Don’s intelligence, love of learning, kindness, and wit were evident to all who knew him and he has left a lasting impact. He will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Susan T. Provencher, son Andrew Provencher of Clifton Park, daughter Emily Provencher and her fiancé Michael Gerlach of Rochester, NY, his mother Claire Provencher, brother Kenneth (Joan) Provencher, his brothers and sisters-in-law Kurt and Carol Trautmann, Stephen and Suzanne Trautmann, and his nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A gathering will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2017 from 10 to 11 a.m., with a memorial mass to follow at 11 a.m. at St. Edward’s Church, 569 Clifton Park Center Rd., Clifton Park.
