Obituary of Bernard G. Briggs

Bernard G. Briggs, age 77 of Ballston Lake passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at Schuyler Ridge Nursing Home after a battle with Parkinson’s Disease and Supranuclear Palsy Disorder. Born on March 13, 1940 in Lewiston, ME, he was the son of the late Edmund and Edna Briggs. He was predeceased by his brother Edmund Briggs, and his nephew Kevin Briggs.

Bernie was a 1958 graduate of Morse High School in Bath, ME, and a 1962 graduate of the University of Maine in Orono. He spent his career as a civil engineer for the NYS Dept. of Transportation, serving as a resident engineer for Washington, Saratoga, and Schenectady Counties, where he was involved in the expansion of the Northway. Bernie was a member of the Grace Chapel in Jonesville. Bernie loved the outdoors, camping, fishing, and tending to his garden. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family, especially his granddaughters. He was very selfless and had unconditional love for everyone.

He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years; Geraldine Briggs, sons Steven (Tara) Briggs and Jeffrey Briggs, brother Bruce (Kay) Briggs, his sister-in-law Nancy Briggs, brother-in-law Harry Woods, niece Susan Gardner, and nephews Mark and Brent Briggs. Bernie was the beloved Papa to his granddaughters Megan and Shannon.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the Ensign Point staff at Schuyler Ridge Nursing Home for all of the excellent care that they provided Bernie.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 2 at 1 p.m. at the Grace Chapel, 996 Main St., in Jonesville.
