Dona Scott and Melissa,
Your husband and father was a great man and how I fondly referred to him as "my favorite patient". When you work at an office as long as I have And see a lot of patients. Why did I call him my favorite patient?
In the early years he'd come in and talk about His job and family. After my daughter was born in 2008. Jerry never forgot a thing I had told him at the previous visit he always remembered to ask how she was and to continue right where we had left off.
Scott how excited he was to go to Africa and see you get married. Melissa out west helping people at a ski lodge.
Scott when he was going to be a grand father the first time and the second. We talked about how proud he was and happy to be a father and grandfather.
When he came in and it was apparent that Cancer was winning the battle.. he was weak but with a smile always.
he still climbed those stairs to keep his mouth in the best health he could.
The last time I saw him I think he knew that would be the last time he'd climb those stairs. He left me with reassurance I was doing a good job and being a solo parent wasn't easy but to just take it as it comes.
He thanked me for always caring and taking the time to take care of his teeth and that the bond we had built over the years he appreciated.
Dona Scott and Melissa your father was an amazing man a true kindered spirit someone I will always treasure.
His smile was always reassuring.
His gait slow but confident
His dedication and commitment inspiring.
So yes out of 1000's of people I've seen through the years...Jerry Parker was my favorite patient.
Please know my heart is heavy with your loss yet somehow the warm memories and time I got to spend Getting to know him brings me comfort and solice and I'm especially glad that he's no longer in pain.
Hugs love and support to you all.

Terribly sorry to see one of the good guys pass so soon. Jerry was a pleasure to work with, always on top of things and beyond the workday a committed family man if his words were true and I'm sure they were. Comfort to you Dona, and all the family members, on the memories of good times you all spent together. You should have the memories forever, as they are proper for you to carry and for Jerry to share. Peace to you all.

I’m so sorry to hear about Jerry’s passing. I got to know him right with I started at UAlbany. In the decades we shared, he was my advisor, a close working colleague, a fellow sports fan, an expert on so many subjects, and above all a friend. We shared work challenges and lots more laughs. His pride, love and support for his family were always evident. My deepest condolences on your loss. May he rest in peace.

Jerry was an amazing gentleman, courageous and brave to the end. I had the privilege to work with Jerry at the Saratoga National Historical Park. Jerry was a fantastic historical educator and a pleasure to watch interacting with park visitors, young and old.
We lost a good man.

Dona - I was shocked to learn of Jerry's passing. Word spread quickly on campus several days ago, prior to the printed obituary. Many of us did not know of his battle with cancer. My mind ran back to the many years I interacted with him,,,and with you, at the University. Since you were there, you know how highly regarded he was by faculty and administrative colleagues as well as students.
He dedicated his professional career to the University, indeed, to higher education. In many ways, he affected the policies and practices that were implemented to benefit students and academic programs. His views, assessments and proposals had an effect and, for those of us who knew him, reflect his legacy. I join my colleagues at the University in extending deepest condolences to you, Scott, Melissa and your family at this sad time.

Jerry was my assistant dean in the School of Business for nine years, a great colleague, a very effective manager, and a good friend. Later, when he moved to Rockefeller College, he gave great support for a research center that I directed.
My interactions with Donna were also pleasant, particularly when she worked in the Vice President's office. She helped the Business School in many ways.
Although I left Albany 19 years ago, I will always think of Jerry as a young, vibrant, colleague. He was an important part of our UAlbany life. My wife and I will miss him.

Dear Donna:
I am so sorry to hear of the loss of Jerry. Though he and I were at SUNYA for many years, it is the years at GSPA where I daily encountered Jerry. And relied upon him.
Jerry was a great member of the School---he could be counted on even when some days were a bit chaotic or at least confusing. Jerry--as far as I can remember--never got angry----he was always the very embodiment of a responsible military officer, which is what he was (though I never knew about that).
Though nearly all of those GSPA faculty are now gone, I am sure that everyone of them would agree that Jerry was a person we all enjoyed working with.

It is sad to hear about Gerry's passing. While I was on the faculty (became emeritus in 1999), I interacted with Gerry frequently, either when he would deal with departmental matters or in connection with committees. He was always helpful -- but not only helpful: considerate. And he "kept his cool" even when dealing with faculty, who can often be difficult to handle. I am glad that he volunteered at the Saratoga National Historic Park; it was a further instance of his selflessness. He will be missed. Steve Wasby
