Obituary of Roland V. Balch

Roland Victor Balch, age 93 of Halfmoon went home to be with the loving Lord on July 31, 2018 after a long illness. He was predeceased by his parents Albert and Elsie Balch.

 

He attended Phoenix High School in NY before going to work at Oberdorfer Foundries in Syracuse at age 17. At 18, he was inducted into the US Army and served in the infantry division in Belgium during WWII. He received two battle stars, an infantry badge, and was awarded the Purple Heart.

After his service, he worked for Carrier Corp. for a year before spending a 34-year career with International Harvester, retiring in 1979. He was a longtime member of the Church at Newtown Road, serving as an usher, greeter, and was on the cleaning committee. He loved camping, traveling, and doing yardwork. Most all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.

 

He is survived by his wife of 68 years; Katherine Balch, sons Richard (Fran) Balch, and Gary Balch, and his brother Kenneth Balch.

 

Calling hours will be held on Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. with a service at 7 p.m. at The Church at Newtown Road, 142 Lower Newtown Rd. in Halfmoon. Burial will be in Hudson View Cemetery in Mechanicville on Tuesday morning.
