Obituary of Calvin A. "Cal" Thayer

Calvin A. “Cal” Thayer, age 84 of Halfmoon passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, November 30, 2018. Born on July 29, 1934, he was the son of the late Calvin W. and Rena Thayer. He was predeceased by his siblings Mildred Albert, Alpha Thayer, Merton Thayer, and Barbara DeVoe.

 

Cal served his country in the US Army before spending his career as an engineer for the NYS Dept. of Transportation for 35 years. He was awarded the Engineer of the Year award in 1990. Cal was a member of the Halfmoon VFW Post 1498 and the On Da Wa Masonic Lodge. He also served as a past vice president of the Public Employees Federation, and was a longtime member of the Halfmoon Planning Board and the Shenendehowa United Methodist Church.

 

He is survived by his wife of 59 years; Doris Thayer, daughter Gail (Russell) Carpenter, son Steve (Beth) Thayer, grandsons Joseph and Sam, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

 

Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Catricala Funeral Home Inc., 1597 Route 9, Clifton Park, with a funeral service on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Shenendehowa United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery.

 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Shenendehowa United Methodist Church, 971 Route 146, Clifton Park, NY 12065, or the Community Hospice of Saratoga, 179 Lawrence St., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
