Obituary of Michael G. Parker

Michael G. Parker, age 70 of Charleston, NY, formerly of Halfmoon, passed away peacefully on Dec 9, 2018 at the Fulton Center in Gloversville. He was born March 11, 1948 in Greenfield, MA, the son of the late Joseph A. and Helen O. Parker. He was predeceased by his youngest cherished son, Taylor Alexander Parker. 

Michael was a 1966 graduate from Columbia High School and Hudson Valley Community College in 1968. While in high school Michael worked at Cordial Greens Country Club, and started a banking career with National Commercial Bank in Albany.

He joined the US Navy in 1968 and trained at the Great Lakes and upon completion shipped off to Exmouth, Australia during the Vietnam War, as an Ensign. 

Upon returning home he enlisted in Army National Guard and became a 2nd Lt., serving in Buffalo, Albany, Rensselaer, Schenectady, upon retiring as a Capt. He enjoyed a long career in the military, where he worked in accounting with Army National Guard State Campus in Albany and at the Watervliet Arsenal until it closed. 
He loved his family, watching his grandchildren play soccer and basketball, playing golf, spending time with his dog, Rainbow, and looking out at his horses from his home.

He is survived by his dedicated and loving wife of 45 years, Regina C. Parker of Halfmoon, his loving children, Darcey K. Parker of Charlotte, NC, Brennen K. (Michele) Parker of Esperance, NY, and Morgan (Amy) of Clifton Park. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Brianna Parker, Brennen Nicholas Parker, Emma Pickett, and Cody and Taylor Parker.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, December 27th from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., with a service at 12 p.m. at the Catricala Funeral Home Inc., 1597 Route 9 in Clifton Park, with a military service to follow at the Saratoga National Cemetery.

The family requests no flowers be sent. Instead, donations can be made in Michael’s name to Operation Adopt a Soldier, 4281 Route 50, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
