Obituary of Fred J. Guerriero
Please share a memory of Fred to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Fred J. Guerriero, age 86 of Orlando, FL passed away on Monday July 7, 2014 at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany. Born on July 2, 1928 in Brooklyn, NY he was the son of the late Fred and Nellie Guerriero. He was predeceased by his brother Thomas A. Guerriero and brother-in-law Edward Evensen.
Fred was a veteran of the US Navy during WW II. For over 40 years, he spent the majority of his career as an operations executive in support of engineering development at IBM in East Fishkill, NY. When Fred retired at age 59, he immediately started enjoying the retiree’s life splitting his time between Ocean Beach, NJ and Orlando, FL. He and his wife Evelyn took several wonderful trips, acting as the social directors of their groups – they knew how to have a good time and include everyone in their fun! They enjoyed visiting casinos in Atlantic City and Tampa but, they especially loved having their grandchildren visit them at the Jersey shore where Grandpa taught them how to body surf and in FL, where he was known to entertain them singing funny songs on car trips home from Disney theme parks. Fred was also involved in the many activities of the Fairways Golf community in Orlando - the NY Club, spring training baseball trips and the Happy Hookers golf league. If ever an emcee for a talent show was needed, Fred was your man and he gave a memorable performance! Together with Evelyn, they were always the life of the party!
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Evelyn Guerriero, daughter Deborah (Donald) Joss, son Thomas W. (Ronda Bean) Guerriero, brother Edward (Connie) Guerriero, sisters-in-law Gloria Guerriero and Judith Evensen and brother-in-law Richard (Peggy) Larsen. He is also survived by grandchildren Allison (Vincent), Jeffrey (Kelley), Caroline (Jeffrey), Michael (fiancée Amanda) and great-grandchildren Logan, Luisa, Griffin, Nicholas and many nieces and nephews.
