Susan Virginia Monro Cole, on July 28, 2014 the world lost the most loving, and kind wife, mother, grandmother and friend and the choir of angels gained an amazing director. She passed with her loving family by her side after a courageous and graceful battle with lung cancer. Sue was born on August 11, 1945 in Washington D. C., the daughter of the late William R. And Virginia K. Monro. She is also predeceased by her grandson Tom Thomason III, and her in laws Starr and Inez Cole. Sue graduated from Mount Pleasant High School, Wilmington, DE in 1963 and attended the University of Delaware. She married her High School sweetheart Jon S. Cole on November 28, 1963. She taught piano lessons at home while raising her three daughters, first in Stone Mountain, Georgia and for 30 years here in Clifton Park. She served as Choir Director at Allgood Road United Methodist Church in Stone Mountain, Georgia and then continued her career at Jonesville United Methodist Church as Office Manager and Director of Music. She brought to Jonesville many new choirs, including Joyful Noise, Chime Choir, Youth Bells, and Adult Bells. She was instrumental in starting the annual combined choir Cantata with Shenendehowa and Jonesville United Methodist Churches. Sue was responsible for the music program at Vacation Bible School, and many can still sing the songs they learned from her. She also served as treasurer, financial secretary, and held many volunteer committee positions within the church. Sue was also involved as a volunteer with many civic organizations. Sue was an avid golfer and loved golfing with her husband, family and her beloved Edison club members. One of her highlights during her battle with cancer was their Friday night gatherings. She was, until recent years, an active NEWGA member along with her mother and with whom she won the Mother/Daughter Philadelphia Championship in the mid 1970's. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughters and their husbands, MaryBeth and Scott Leslie, Jennifer and Michael Curtis, and Linda and Tom Thomason. Also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Michael, Matthew and Mark Leslie, Amanda and Brad Curtis, and Jon Thomason. Sue felt very blessed by her extended family and friends including brother in laws and sister in laws, and all of their children. A memorial service will be held on Sunday August 3 at 12 noon at the Jonesville United Methodist Church. Family, her faith and music were so important to her, but her legacy will be her everyday acts of kindness that were so genuine and heartfelt. A circle of strength and love, Our Family, founded on faith, joined in love, kept by God, forever together. Donations in her memory may be sent to the Sue Cole Memorial fund at Jonesville UMC 963 Main Street, Clifton Park, NY 12065.
