Obituary of Dante H. Degni

Dante H. Degni, age 90 of Clifton Park passed away peacefully at home on January 6, 2021. Born on February 9, 1930, he was the son of the late Anita and Michael Degni. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Alvina Degni, son-in-law Jefferson Mitchell, and 10 siblings. Dante served in the U.S. Army’s 9th “Manchu” Infantry Regiment during the Korean War, receiving the Purple Heart. Afterwards, he graduated from Clarkson College with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He spent his career as an Engineer/ Manager with NY Telephone Co. in Albany and Utica for over 35 years. Dante was very dedicated to his church, St. George’s Episcopal Church in Clifton Park, serving multiple terms as Warden. He served as Chairman of the Board of Child’s Hospital in Albany. He also served as Secretary and Treasurer for the 9th Infantry Regiment (Manchu) Association US Army for many years. In addition, he spent many years as member and Treasurer of his golf league(s). Dante enjoyed fishing, reading, gardening, and golfing. Most of all he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his daughters Suzanne Mitchell, and Kathleen (Scott) Shepherd, son Matthew Degni (Linda Gauvain-McNulty), brother-in-law Sidney (Joyce) Batty, his grandchildren Sarah (Jonathan) Adelstein, Gregory (Laura) Mitchell, Chelsea Shepherd, Allison Mitchell, Brian Shepherd, Nicholas Degni, Daniel Shepherd, Vincent Degni, and Emelia McNulty, and his great-grandchildren Morgan Mitchell, Elias Adelstein, and Grey Mitchell. A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, May 22nd at 11 a.m. at St. George’s Episcopal Church in Clifton Park, with the family receiving guests starting at 10:30 a.m. The service will be livestreamed and can be viewed on the church’s website at www.stgeorgescp.org. Burial will be in Jonesville Cemetery. Donations may be made “in memory of Dante Degni Memorial Fund” to St. George’s Episcopal Church, 912 NY-146, Clifton Park, NY 12065, and/or “in memory of Dante Degni for Research” to Alzheimer’s Association, 4 Pine West Plaza – Ste 405, Albany, NY 12205.
