Marjorie R. Bates, age 88 of Clifton Park passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, April 11, 2021. Born on September 17, 1932, in Elmira Heights, NY, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Mary Jurusik. She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years; Arthur R. Bates, her daughter Barbara Ann Bates, her grandson Gabriel Kondas, and her brothers John and Eugene Jurusik. Marjorie attended Cortland State Teacher’s College and taught 5th and 6th grades at St. George’s Nursery School, and owned and taught at Happy Days Nursery School. She was also the Education Coordinator for Rensselaer County, and worked at Head Start in Troy and Rensselaer. She was very active in St. George’s Episcopal Church in Clifton Park, serving on the vestry, heading the altar guild, and served on many other committees. Marjorie loved music and plays. She especially enjoyed reading, and she volunteered at the town library back when it was over Key Bank. She enjoyed the Orchard Park winters when her children were young, and enjoyed learning to ski and play tennis and golf. She loved her neighbors and playing bridge with her friends. Most of all, she was blessed with a wonderful husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her children A. Thomas (Josie) Bates, Martin Bates, Carolyn (Gerry) Kondas, brother Paul Jurusik, and her sister Josephine Colville. She is also survived by her grandchildren Marisa (Jeremy), Allyson, Marian (fiancé Brandon), Alexandra, Celine, Tyler, and Jared, and her great-grandchildren Holly, Brayleah, and Auden. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, April 20th from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Catricala Funeral Home Inc., 1597 Route 9, Clifton Park with a funeral service on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. George’s Episcopal Church in Clifton Park. Burial will be in Jonesville Cemetery. The family would like to thank her amazing caregivers and the nurses from the Community Hospice for all of the excellent care, love, and kindness they provided to Marjorie. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Community Hospice of Saratoga County, 179 Lawrence St., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866 or to St. George's Church, 912 Route 146 Clifton Park, NY 12065.
