Obituary of Elizabeth M. "Betty" Kirby

Elizabeth M. “Betty” Kirby, age 96 of Cohoes passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 11, 2021. Born on November 27, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Marie Miller. She was predeceased by her husband William Kirby, sons Kevin and Paul Kirby, and her daughter-in-law Diane Kirby. Betty worked as a teacher for the Cohoes City School District for many years. She was an avid quilter and loved painting and tending to her garden. She enjoyed traveling and took many trips all over the world. She volunteered her time at the Eddy in Cohoes, and was active with the Friends of Cohoes Library and the former St. Bernard’s Church in Cohoes. She is survived by her children Katrina Kidder, Marion (Malcolm) Phelps, Kathleen (Jeffrey) Freeman, Vincent (Colleen) Kirby, James Kirby, William (Elaine) Kirby, and David (Christine) Kirby. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank all of the staff at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center in Guilderland for all of the wonderful care they provided to Betty. Calling hours will be held on Friday, May 14th from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Catricala Funeral Home, 1597 Route 9, in Clifton Park, with a Funeral Mass at 12 Noon at St. Mary’s Church in Crescent. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Troy. The family requests no flowers be sent. Instead, donations may be made in her memory to the Recreational Activities Fund at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center, 2 Mercy Care Lane, Guilderland, NY 12084.
