Obituary of Jeanne K. Power
Jeanne Kuenzig Power passed away peacefully on February 25, 2022 at the age of 99. Norma Jeanne Kuenzig was born on May 5, 1922 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to the late Joseph & Edith Kuenzig. Jeanne is predeceased by her husband Paul Power Sr., daughter Peggy Power Gifford, brothers John and Robert Kuenzig and grandson Bryah (Cara) Gifford.
After graduating from Westinghouse High School in 1940, Jeanne took classes at the University of Pittsburgh. She enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corp in 1943. Sergeant Kuenzig was a Link Trainer Instructor in Cherry Point, North Carolina and was honorably discharged in November of 1945. Throughout her life Jeanne and her husband, Paul lived in Wilkinsburg, PA, Stamford NY and Germany while running their own food brokerage business. Jeanne and Paul traveled the world together experiencing different cultures. This resulted in Jeanne mothering many foreign exchange students in her home. Jeanne also worked for BOCES and Dr. Frank Cyr.
Jeanne was a lifelong learner returning to study at SUNY Oneonta in her 60’s. Jeanne was heavily involved in the Stamford community including with Rotary, Inner Wheel, The Stamford Presbyterian Church and MURAL. Jeanne enjoyed gardening, coin collecting, debating with friends and reading, and was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was an assistant librarian at the Stamford Public Library until she retired at the age of 90. However, Jeanne’s true love was her family.
Jeanne is survived by her children: Pat (Liz) Power of Stamford, NY, Nanci (Betty) Newell of San Jose, CA, Sandra (Manuela) Lombardi of Rome, Italy and Randy Gifford of Clifton Park, NY; her sister Joan (Ed) Gomes; Grandchildren: Charlie (Jim) Cahill, Paul (Chrissi) Power, Amy (Brenden) Gotham, Sean (Katie) Power, Paddy (Caitlin) Power, Marco and Carolina Lombardi, Katie McCann; 10 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, March 2nd from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Catricala Funeral Home Inc., 1597 Route 9 in Clifton Park, with a funeral service at 1 p.m. at the Jonesville United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Stamford Cemetery in the spring.
