So sorry for your loss. I do not subscribe to the Times Union, only Daily Gazette, thus my tardiness.
I remember as a kid, probably 1960 or 1961, the hunting gang was going up to Indian lake to set up camp. The Northway was only open as far as Exit 9. But that did not stop us at 5 am from going around the barricades. And to avoid the cops, we used only moonlight. All was going well until we hit a pile of gravel which damaged a brake line; we were hemorraging brake fluid. Your father crawled under the car to see what could be done as a temporary fix. He instructed me to chew as much gum as possible, hand it to him under the car, and thus he had a patch. Not only was this creative, but we went onto deer camp as scheduled and back home, albeit with limited braking ability.
They just don't make them like that anymore!
