Obituary of Barbara M. Berry
Barbara M. "Barb" Berry, age 81 of Ballston Lake passed away peacefully in her room at the Home of the Good Shepard on, Sunday, November 27, 2022. Born on July 15, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Karl and Lenora Deucker.
Barb graduated from Albany High School in 1959. She immediately went to work for the phone company after high school graduation. While working there she met the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Berry, through one of her early coworkers and a life-long friend. They met at a picnic in Thatcher Park and married a couple of years later in, 1962. Barb lived her life with family, friends, and God as her priorities.
During her life as a wife and mother, Barb took on many professional roles. She worked in a doctor's office, an auto auction, and for the state of NY (in multiple agencies) after graduating from Russell Sage with a paralegal degree. Ultimately, retiring from NYS Insurance Fund in 1998. She was an active member of Corpus Christi Church for many decades and the Clifton Park Elks Club auxiliary. She also loved the arts & crafts as a hobby and as a part time profession. She was always a wife and mom first, though.
Barb loved taking trips with her husband, especially their many trips to Maine. She loved to sing and dance. One of our fondest memories is of our parents dancing non-stop at weddings, or the many dances held at the Elks Club. Everyone knew to give them some room on the dance floor.
Being a grandmother was one of the most important joys in her life. She spent many hours playing with all of her grandchildren and always brightly shined when they came for a visit. The grandchildren were always excited to play board games, kickball, whiffle ball, and have dinner at Grandma’s house. One enduring memory for all of them will be her famous milkshakes – they’ve all learned how to make them.
Barb passed letting all of us (her sons) know that she loved us very deeply and unconditionally. She will be severely missed, always immensely loved, and forever remembered in our hearts.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Home of the Good Shepard and the nurses of the Community Hospice of Saratoga for all of the compassionate care they provided.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, December 1 from 3 to 6 p.m., with a service at 6 p.m. at the Catricala Funeral Home Inc., 1597 Route 9, in Clifton Park. A private family burial will be in East Line Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Alzheimer’s Association Northeastern NY Chapter, 4 Pine West Plaza, Suite 40, online at www.alz.org.
