I had the pleasure of working with D for over three decades. He had a couple favorite stories. Earlier in his career, D was rising through the ranks at the lab. Paul Rummel said to D that he “was a tiger.” Very true. As an engineer, D had the gift of cleverness in mechanism design. He conceived a series of patents on breech sealing including 3,344,988 for a rather audacious means to load the propelling charge backwards into the chamber. He liked to reflect that his boss at the time said just “when you think there is no new way to close a breech, D came up with one.” He was a very brave man who did not hold back. He will be missed!

Nina and I are greatly saddened by this news. D was, next to my family, dearest to my heart. He did a lot for all of us. He was truly a good man. Please accept our heartfelt condolences.
I'm sure that the Lord has an especially prepared place for him. May his soul rest in peace.

Bonnie and family. I’m so sorry for your loss “ D” how we called him was one of the distinguished articulate man I have ever met. My memories are many, usually sharing at the kitchen table. He taught me proper Italian pronunciation. Growing up amongst mostly Italians I picked up some words that were pronounced SLANG PASTA FAZUL PROPER PRONUNCIATION PASTA FAGIOLI Bonnie I can’t tell you how many times I corrected the slang “. He was certainly a GEM May his spirit always be there for you. Victoria ( Vickie) Hodgkinson

I will never ever forgot the day I arrived in Vicenza as a young Lieutenant Colonel, completely lost, not speaking the language and no idea where I was supposed to be. "D" you took me aside and told me to stay near you, that you'd help me figure it all out.
That evening you even took me to Contrata Riale where your little apartment was and introduced me to Bonnie. Then you helped me figure out how to find an apartment, and I lived right around the corner from you and Bonnie for those years in Vicenza. I was always in and out at your house, and Bonnie and I were always off getting into our fun. You even let me play Bonnie in tennis, and then just giggled when she ran me all over the court that day. We had dinners at the Golden Lion, went to church at San Lorenzo and you even helped me buy baby shoes at that cute little store around the corner for all my friends little one. You were there when I ended up in the Ospedale San Bortolo in the emergency room. We have stories from that adventure don't we??!?
"D" - you were always so many things to so many people and loved and respected by all. You and Bonnie are such a wonderful family and the love and joy in all the wonderful stories about Gina and Michael and Tommy and Jamie and the grandchildren. You let me be a part of your family from the very first moment I met you and Bonnie. I know you are watching over your whole family - there is another angel in heaven. Forever in my heart "D."
Thoughts and prayers to you Bonnie, Gina and Tommy and the whole family.
Sogni d'oro all'angelo del cielo. StephanieTutton

My Husband, My Love, My Partner, My Friend
“D”
My Husband, My Love, My Partner, My Friend,
We have made a journey through life that most people only dream about! We did it the hard way…you an immigrant from Italy …. and I a girl from Lansingburgh. Who knew we would meet at the Uncle Sam ski club in September of 1963. You told me then that you knew we would be married. You made our life happen…buying our house before we were married…making an absolutely fantastic itinerary for our five week tour through Europe for our honeymoon. Then the arrival of our to amazing kids…Gina and Tom.
Life was always on the move for us. Traveling when we could with our kids….Hawaii, Mexico, Florida, and Italy. We gave them the adventure of traveling …. And they continue now with their own kids. Our travels…living in Italy and Japan was a life changing experience for us. Learning the world as we traveled to so many different countries. What a life!!! WOW!!
After our world travels ended …a new adventure was on the horizon…. The marriage of Gina and Tom….and then….(oh how we prayed for)…the arrival of our four amazing grandchildren!!! Eryn, Giulia, Tommy and Michael. We were so excited with the arrival of each one. And how blessed we are to have two girls and two boys!!! We love them so much!!!
Now it is time to settle down and reminisce all the adventures of our lives. God has been so good to me….giving you to me as my husband.. it is because of you all of the above happened. I have been truly blessed!!
I love you….we will always be together…
Today April 10, Our Lord had decided you suffered too much and it was time to take you home with him. We cried at your passing…but we were happy to know you are at peace. What a perfect time you picked…with Gina and family here to support you for the last four days…celebrate Easter together…..and now it’s time to say goodbye…but only for a short while. Please save me a place in heaven so we will be together again soon. Life is just a blink of an eye….my blink is almost finished….. so I’m not saying goodbye…but until we are together for eternity in heaven. As we said every night…and also texted each other every night….Buona Notte Sogni d’oro.
Love you Sweetie!!
