Yeva always made everyone around her better. She always made me laugh and smile. I could talk to her for hours about anything. I’ll never forget the hundreds of hours we spent at practice together, just laughing, having fun and running. She always made the best desserts for birthdays and Christmas. She made everyone around her feel special. I’ll never forget her love of Christmas, her dedication to her family and friends or her faith in God. She inspires everyone around her to be their best.

Yeva was always a sister to me. I remember meeting the family when she was 4 after moving from California. Yeva loved people and loved animals unconditionally. If you were a nice person, she loved you. Yeva truly lived out her faith in every way. She was inviting people to church till the very end. She loved Jesus! She loved attending church and learning about Jesus in Sunday School, and Youth Confirmation Class! It was very encouraging to have a best friend who loved church as much as I did. Then during her cancer journey, one thing that I admired about her was that she never complained. I was able to hear about her bad days and things that bothered her, but I do not remember ever hearing a true complaint. She was also a very determined and persistent person. After her ~1-month hospital stay in 2020, she was determined to walk and swallow again. Yeva never gave up. Her cancer also seemed to make her faith grow. Yeva still wanted to go to church and receive Holy Communion as soon as she was able to. Yeva was very inspiring, and I will continue to view her as an example that I want to follow. She will always be loved, and I thank the Lord for her and for ending her suffering and bringing her home to heaven with Him for eternity where we can see her again one day!

And then there was the smile…
It lit up the room,
It came from love deep inside,
Love for her Lord and Savior,
Love for her family,
Love for others,
Love that shared her joy,
Love that baked cakes and cookies for friends and family even while she was in the fight for her life.
My favorite memory of Yeva: She emailed and texted with me almost daily from the day she first got an email address until the day before her journey to heaven. Her conversations always brightened my days.
Heaven is her home.

Yeva was an inspiration to me. Her sense of humor was unmatched. Even when it became difficult to do daily tasks, she had a glint in her eye and a strong determination to accomplish what she set out to do. And who knew Ollie had so many hidden talents? Who knew? Yeva did. She illuminated the beauty of this world for all who had the opportunity to know her.
I thank God for her.

This is a picture Yeva made for me based on a conversation we had. I can’t help but laugh every time I look back on it. It’s silly, It’s whimsical. Its meaning is something only Yeva could ever have imagined, and I am so glad she made it for me. That she let me see her whimsy; that she shared with me the humor she wrapped her spirit in even as her earthly story was drawing to a close. Here was Yeva, with every reason to be downcast, with every reason to keep every second she had to herself, and she chose instead to give, to give her time to me, even for a precious moment, to brighten my day. To share her spirit with me. I will always hold that moment dear to me.

Q: What was one of your favorite qualities of Yeva?
A: Yeva had a never faltering spirit; her determination was truly unmatched and admirable. I'll never forget our race at Manhattan Invitational. The course was incredibly challenging, and I feared I couldn't push through. But Yeva's strength never faltered, and with a look, she silently urged me on. We ran step by step, bound by bound, pushing each other faster and faster until we were met with the flat ground once again. Her hope was infectious, and I will forever remember her as a girl who always pushed ahead.

Yeva, thank you so much for being in my life. My first friend of New York, my teammate, my fellow photographer, and my kindest friend. We bonded over our love for nature, running,Christmas, fall, and feasting on thanksgiving and of course being goofy!! Our best memories were running around the Mcquaid hotel room stealing and hiding plastic spoons. And amazingly enough, the team mascot for the crosscountry team (lobster) still lives on to this day!
yeva, i miss you so much. The world needs your beautiful soul but your kindness and spirit impacted so many lives while you were here and I’ll forever cherish our memories. Thank you for inspiring me to always see the light in the darkest rooms, thank you for everything.

A: Yeva was one of the most caring people I have ever met. Even through everything she went through she was always there for you. I will miss her so much. She made my years on the team the best and I am forever grateful to have known her. I will also miss her cooking - she made some of the best peanut butter brownies I’ve ever had.
