I just learned of his passing and wish to express my sincere condolences to his family. My experience of him, as a father embroiled in a difficult custody battle, was of a judge who actually listened, was fair and genuinely concerned for the welfare of the children involved. Due to a change in venue because of my relocation we lost him as presiding judge and the continuity that was critical to a fair hearing. He is one of the few individuals, in my twenty years of Family Court litigation, who I remember fondly and with respect. Brad Callahan, Tricarico, Italy.

You were my friend Gil, you were my political Guru, and made sure we made it through an administration in the most honest way. Thank you Beth, and Josh for being my friend.

I was in his court many times as an attorney for the child. I remember the first time I ever brought a young child into his chambers for an in camera interview. His chambers was like a candy store which thrilled my client (and me) but what sticks with me the most was the fluffy Winnie the Pooh slippers peeking out from under his judicial robes. He removed his robes and sat down, legs crossed, waiting patiently for the little boy to fill up a bag with candy (also provided by the judge) as he swung one foot back and forth with that crazy slipper on it. It was the first of many in camera interviews and each and every time, the child was so comfortable opening up to the judge. Even in the saddest of cases he could make a child laugh and smile. He also always remembered that I had three kids and he made sure that I took candy home for them (or so he thought!). He was a great man and he made such a difference in my life and in the life of every child he ever met. He will be greatly missed but forever remembered. My condolences to the family.
