Deepest condolences about the passing of Judge Sharpe. I will never forget my time working for him back in his days as a Magistrate Judge. We worked hard and had fun too. He was a great person, judge, lawyer and mentor. The lessons that I learned from him were formative and made me into the attorney that I am today. I will always be grateful for the chance that he gave. A life well lived!
Micha Ordway
PS. His sense of humor was truly wicked. I think he believed that he was John Wayne!

Bette &Terry Lynch [Sun City]
Bette met Lorraine on the tennis courts. What a competitor, no doubt brought on by her forever spirited life with her soul mate Gary. We have only known them for a few years, but became close friends quickly, enjoying golf and concerts together, as well as dinner and card game gatherings with a group in Sun City. When Lorraine wanted to get his attention it was "Gary Lawrence" followed by some loving expletive that Gary graciously accepted...maybe with a re-tort! On the golf course....must have a competition between them [we think Gary let her win]. We were fortunate to have them as friends not only in Sun City but also in their and our homes in upstate NY. One time at our Brant Lake home we enticed both of them to get out onto the swim float that Gary enjoyed but insisted that Lorraine could not buy one.
Always fun to be with, we miss him already; we will treasure our memories together.

Loved my brother Gary. Although we did not see each other in recent years due to distance and lifestyles, I will always cherish all the memories of our family get togethers over the years before life took us in different directions, especially the Dickie Dawson memories! lol RIP Gary until we meet again.

In the time that we knew Gary and Lorraine on their visits to Sun City, we became good friends and enjoyed many afternoons and evenings together. Gary always had a great joke or a wise adage he would share with the group. His outlook on life was refreshing and down to earth. It was our great pleasure to know him and to be in his company, We especially enjoyed his sense of humor and, of course, his great laugh.

William Larkin posted a condolence

My name is Bill Larkin. I became an Assistant United States Attorney in Binghamton in October of 1986, joining Gary and his trusted legal assistant Lindy Vangeli. Gary became a friend and mentor. His advice and counsel helped mold and advance my career in the U.S. Attorneys Office.
Gary was humble, hard working, very smart, and had a great sense of humor. He could give and take a joke. His laughter would resonate down the hallways of the Binghamton and Syracuses offices. His work ethic and preparation were unmatched. Those who underestimated Gary did so at their peril.
He was truly a great lawyer, judge, and more importantly a great man. To my knowledge his primary weakness was an undying loyalty to mediocre sports franchises ( i.e. the Cleveland Browns).
The Bench and Bar of the Northern District of New York have lost one of their finest.

Lorraine and Paula met playing tennis and became fast friends. The Sun City tennis club had a Roaring '20s dinner dance in 2016 and Paula, at the last minute, couldn't attend. She made me promise I'd go because Lorraine (who was bringing Gary) told him he wouldn't be the only man there. Gary and I sat together and found that we shared many "ME TOO!!" experiences! What an interesting evening. We discovered we had both been county prosecutors, Assistant US Attorneys, US Attorneys, attended Miami University, served in Vietnam, and had held leadership roles with Methodist youth groups. That evening was the beginning of a wonderful friendship. We played tennis, golf, cards, had dinners (and drinks), attended local theater productions, etc. These were great times. Gary with his huge laugh, and entertaining stories, with Lorraine joining in, made them so much fun to be around! As they say, they broke the mold when he was born. He will be greatly missed by us and by all who were fortunate enough to have known him.

Lorraine and Family,
I will always remember Judge Sharpe for his kindness and generosity to everyone he met. I will also remember his wonderful laugh, which always made me smile and feel welcome. He was a great mentor and judge but, more importantly, he was a great human being. He will be missed.

I started with the courts in 1996. When Judge Sharpe was appointed a US Magistrate Judge and his CRD Dan went on to be with Judge Mordue they of course were interviewing for the position. I had an interview and let me say it was an enjoyable experience. I was a bit nervous as to be expected but when I went into his office he greeted me with that big smile of his and told me to have a seat. He then put his feet up on the desk, lit a cigarette and said "tell me a little about yourself". Even though I did not get the position the experience was a memorable one. He was truly genuine and sincere and I experienced that from being in the courtroom as well. He had way of being solemn but also knew to how to laugh and make others laugh. My condolences and may God Bless you all.

My name is Edward J. Fitzpatrick and I have known Judge Gary Sharp since we were in Kindergarten at Alton B. Parker Elementary School in Cortland, New York. To say Gary and I were close friends is certainly an under statement as we did virtually everything together beginning with playing Little Legue Baseball, Small Fry Football, and running shoeless through public parks during the winter months. To say Gary was an intelligent student in elementary, junior and senior high schools and participated in a whole bunch of diverse extra curricular activities in addition to getting involved in after class interests, like playing pool at Lou's Billiard Parlor where Gary would kick my butt on a regular basis while satisfying the qualifications required for acceptance in high level membership in honorary societies such as the National Honor Society. Gary Sharp has no equal as a student, a friend, a parent or as a human being. I will miss him terribly. As such I will be sending additional memories.
