Joseph R. Walsh Obituary

Joseph R. Walsh Sr, age 70, of Ballston Lake, passed away on February 24, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born February 6, 1945 in Albany, he was the loving grandson of the late Joseph DiVirgilio, son of the late Marie Ferraro and Ralph Walsh. He is also predeceased by his stepmother, Marion Walsh, sister, Susan Westfield and brothers, Ralph and William Walsh.


He enlisted into the US Army from 1965 to 1967. He earned three purple hearts and the Vietnam Service Medal while serving in Vietnam. Afterwards, he worked for the U.S. Post Office as a sorter for the GMF in Colonie. He also worked for the Tobin Packing Co. where he met his wife.


He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, the American Legion Post #1610, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #8692 and the Tri City Council Vietnam Era Veterans. He loved spending time with his grandkids, fishing, attending Chong Hyo Tae Kwon Do led by Master Parks and taking his great granddaughter Haylee to McDonalds.


He is survived by his loving wife, Marlene D. Walsh, whom he was married for 42 and a half years, daughter, Laureen E. (Mike) Wolff, sons, Joseph R.(Lisamarie) Walsh Jr, John J. (Nicole) Walsh, Joseph J. (Sarah) Walsh, Charles A. (Christie) Walsh and Sean M. (Sara) Walsh, grandchildren, Jeff and Nick Alling, Michael, Joseph, Dylan Wolff, Alec, Jillian, Jenna, Julianne, Jason, Michelle, Melissa, Mita, Lisa, Tyler, Gabriella, Andrew, Jackie, Zachary, Ian and Amber Walsh, and granddogs, Shelbie and Kody Walsh. He is also survived by his sisters, Annmarie (Skip) Berhupt, Donna Peasley, Donna (Warren) Espey, brothers, Charles (Deborah) Walsh, Robert Walsh, Earl (Henrietta) Walsh, Thomas (Julie) Walsh and Alan (Amie) Walsh and longtime friend, Terence Mooney.


Calling hours will be held at Catricala Funeral Home Inc. on Sunday from 3 to 7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday at 9 am at St. Mary’s Church in Ballston Spa. Burial will follow at Saratoga National Cemetery at 11 am.
