Niskayuna, NY. Donald C. Freiberger, age 93, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday April 17, 2024 at Ellis Hospital. Born in Baldwin, NY. He was the son of the late Charles A. and Elsa A. (Friedlander) Freiberger. Don is survived by his loving wife of over 64 years, Theresa; his daughters, Donna (Kevin) Griffin and Dawn Freiberger. His grandchildren, Allison McElligott, Meghan McElligott, Elizabeth McBain, John Griffin, Molly McBain, Kathleen Griffin and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings Carl (Martha) Freiberger and Marie (Ernest) Viegelmann. After high school he enrolled in the US Army and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War. After his discharge he worked at Grumman and met the love of his life, Terry. They married on October 31, 1959. They lived on Long Island until 1970 when Don and Terry moved their young family from Long Island to rural Jefferson, NY where he owned and managed the town's General Store. Their time in small town Jefferson was full of fun and many friends until moving to Clifton Park in 1981 where they made their final home until early 2023. Don was active for many years in Clifton Park's American Legion Mohawk Post 1480. Don was a major motorsports fan since he was a young man. He would take his two young daughters and other kids from Jefferson to dirt racetracks instilling the love of the sport in anyone who was interested. He especially loved NASCAR and would watch every race he could! He was able to see many races in person including famous tracks like Talladega, Poconos, Darlington and Richmond. Don loved the opportunity to get together with friends and never met a wedding reception he didn't love! He would burn up the dance floor and was always the life of the party. He loved all kinds of music but especially big bands and jazz. For several years in the late 60s he played trumpet in the Comanche Raiders marching band on Long Island. Don and Terry loved wintering at Briarcliffe RV Resort in Myrtle Beach, SC and spent many years there with loving friends. He had a quick wit and would make many laugh. Don loved woodworking and made so many items for family and friends over the years. He was extremely handy and would lovingly help his daughters and grandchildren with projects around the house or cars. For the past year, Don and Terry were residents of Ingersoll Place in Schenectady where he was lovingly cared for by so many with special thanks to Carrie, Pam and his dining buddy, "Cookie". Calling hours will be held on Monday, April 29, 2024 from 10-12pm at the Catricala Funeral Home, 1597 Route 9, Clifton Park, NY. A Funeral service will be held at 12pm at the Funeral Home.
