Leonard Plaske of Malta, NY, known as Lenny or Len, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home on September 15, 2024, at the age of 89. Born in Albany, he was the son of the late Leonard B. and Anne (Maleski) Plaske. Len was predeceased by his first wife, Joan (Watson) Plaske, and one daughter, Michelle (Plaske) Pirolo. After high school he enlisted in the Air Force where he served as a Driver and Aid at the Pentagon to Brigadier General TW Scott. After his years in the military, he became an Ironworker in Albany's Local 12 Union. He continued in that career and became a certified welder. He and his welding instructor, Eddy Stack, were the two welders to weld the 70 and 90 meter ski jumps at the 1980 Lake Placid Winter Olympics. After retirement he owned and ran Hillegonda Antiques in Arlington, VT for 10 years. He suffered a 3 year decline due to Alzheimers, however, the first thing he did each day in his recent years was checking the stock market and watching CNBC on TV. He was a lover of cowboy boots, and a collector of antique clocks. Len is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sharon (Sweet) Plaske, his daughter Lisa (Rick) Motto, grandchildren, Lauren Motto, Carly (CJ) Stone, Amanda (Rui) Tojais, and great-grandchildren Capria Stone, Stella Stone, and Mason Tojais. The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to the Saratoga Community Hospice for the care and support they provided. In addition, the family is grateful for all of the help these past 3 years by the Albany VA.
