Franklin Day Obituary

Clifton Park – Franklin Louis Day passed away peacefully on Oct. 31, 2024 after a long illness at the age of 86. He was born in Johnson City, Tennessee to parents Harvey and Nannie (Byrd) Day who predeceased him.

He attended Science Hill High School in Johnson City, graduated from East Tennessee State College (Now ETSU), and did his Master's Degree work at SUNY Albany.

Franklin was a math teacher for over 30 years, primarily at Central Park Middle School and Linton High School in Schenectady, New York.

After moving to Clifton Park in 1971, he became a long-time member of Shenendehowa United Methodist Church. He enjoyed volunteer work there, especially at the yearly church fair. In later years he volunteered with Care Links, driving other seniors to necessary appointments.

Franklin was stationed at Fort Stewart, Georgia for most of his two years (1960-1962) in the Army, serving as a First Lieutenant. As the youngest of 13 children, he was predeceased by 7 brothers and 5 sisters. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ruth (Dingman), daughter Jennifer Clark (David), granddaughters Daria and Emmy Clark, sisters-in-law June Day (Garnett) and Rebecca Day (Charles). His son Jared predeceased him on February 16, 2017.

He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid fisherman, golfer, and hunter. He loved camping and hiking and loved his pets, especially his dog, Sully, with whom he'd take for runs down at the Vischer Ferry Nature Preserve. After retirement he and Ruth spent time RVing throughout most of the states in the US. Franklin was a wonderful husband, a dear friend to many, and a loving dad and grandpa.

A memorial service will be held in the spring at Gerald B. H. Solomon Cemetery in Schuylerville, New York.

Donations in memory of Frank may be made to Care Links, 543 Saratoga Rd Glenville, NY 12302.
