Clifton Park – Elizabeth I. Fernandez, 101 years and 4 months, passed away on Monday, November 11, 2024 at Baptist Nursing and Rehab following a long illness. Elizabeth was born in 1923 in Clifton Park, New York, a daughter of the late Frank and Sarah (Hemstreet) Walker. After she left high school, she married the late William Werner, and together they had 4 children. After his passing, she remarried the late Frank Fernandez and welcomed his 2 children into her life. She worked for Shenendehowa Central Schools in the cafeteria for 25 years before her retirement. When Elizabeth was not at work she enjoyed making crafts and especially crocheting. She would sell her crafts to friends and coworkers at the school. She loved to spend time fishing with Frank on the Mohawk River, and she enjoyed a membership with the Seniors of Halfmoon. In addition to her parents and her husbands, Elizabeth was also predeceased by her brother, Leland Walker, and her eldest son, Leland Werner. She is survived by her children: Judith (Franklin) DeVoe, Catherine (Ronald) Singley, and William (Theresa) Werner; her two step-children: Frank (Elaine) Fernandez, Jr., and Delores (John) Williamson; a daughter-in-law, Bertha Werner, and a sister-in-law, Lolita Walker; as well as 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. A period of visitation will be held for Elizabeth from 10:00 AM until 12:00 Noon on Friday, November 15, 2024 at Catricala Funeral Home, immediately followed by a funeral service at noon. Burial will follow at the Waterford Rural Cemetery. Donations in memory of Elizabeth may be made to the American Heart Association.
