Halfmoon – Daniel P. Kelly, 72, passed away on Monday, December 30, 2024, while surrounded by his family, following a courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease.

Dan was born in 1952 in Hudson, New York, a son of the late Truscott and Kathryn (Becker) Kelly. He is predeceased by a brother, T. Michael Kelly.

After his high school education at Ichabod Crane, Dan earned an associate's degree in criminal justice at Hudson Valley Community College in 1972. Following college, Dan worked in railroad policing for 41 years for Penn Central Railroad, Conrail, and finally at CSX in Selkirk, NY, where he was a Supervisory Special Agent, retiring in 2015. During his career, he received numerous commendations for his excellent police work.

Dan loved traveling with his wife Pam and together they visited 28 states, 21 countries, and 18 national parks. He loved Broadway Theater, live music, beaches, kayaking, hiking, and anything that brought him outdoors. While Dan enjoyed cheering on the Yankees, Jets, Knicks and Siena basketball, he especially loved watching his grandchildren perform and compete – he rarely missed a recital, regatta, softball, soccer, or basketball game. Above all else, he loved his family.

Dan is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Pamela (Carpenter) Kelly; his two daughters: Lisa (Scott) Gramling, and Jessica (Andrew) Scharoun; his four grandchildren: Madelaine, Max, Abagail, and Isabel; his siblings: Kathleen (Scott) Owitz, Patricia (Mark) McKay, and Peter (Catherine) Kelly; his sister-in-law: Dorothy Kelly; and his in-laws: Danielle (Alex) Jesudowich, and Suzanne (Bob) Nowak; along with 10 nieces and nephews, and many cousins.

The family would like to thank the staff of Schuyler Ridge for the compassionate care they gave to Dan during his short stay.

A period of visitation will be held for Dan at St. Mary's Church of Crescent, 86 Church Hill Rd, Waterford, NY 12188, on Friday January 10, from 11:00 am – 12:00 Noon, with a Memorial Mass immediately following at 12:00 Noon.
